EHS Program Specialist

This position will support the Mount Airy, NC and Clinton, SC locations. Travel between locations is required.
SUMMARY
With limited supervision and direction of the EHS Director, the Safety Specialist assists with developing safety and health programs, monitors safety and health requirements, and provides technical support to production, warehouse and corporate employees and leaders to ensure compliance with local, state and federal safety and health regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develops, implements, and manages safety compliance programs and procedures including but not limited to the following: hazard communication, lockout/tagout, bloodborne pathogens, hearing conservation, industrial hygiene, forklift safety, first aid/CPR, electrical safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protection and emergency planning.
Administers , tracks, and maintains safety training for Renfro employees; assists the Human Resource Department with new hire orientation and on-boarding to ensure safety policies and procedures are effectively communicated prior to employment.
Maintain and update as needed SOPs for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day today training
Assists with the Human Resource department on all activities related to workers compensation, including claims management, interfacing with insurance carrier to support timely progression of claims, injury-related litigation management, employee communication and follow-up, incident investigations to correct safety hazards, tracking of incident and injury data to identify trends and administering modified duty and employee return-to-work program.
Perform and contribute to the Site Training Plans by conducting new employee safety orientations/on-boarding; emergency response training; and coordination of modular EHS training programs for the Supply Chain Operations.
Ensure inspections by regulatory and outside agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected.
Lead the Emergency Response Team and comply with all Company policies and procedures.
Manages environmental programs and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental statutes. Ensures that environmental permit is current, up to date, and maintained appropriately
Manages employee medical surveillance program including scope, scheduling and liaison with medical providers.
Conducts risk assessments at the task, job and process levels.
Maintains OSHA recordkeeping and other regulated filing requirements, including the OSHA 300 log.
Supports interaction with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and risk/loss control issues with property insurance carrier. Supports audit activities, including both external and internal vendor compliance audits.
Coordinates and manages activities of outside consultants that may be required to ensure safety compliance.
Inputs, tracks and reports safety data, statistics and key performance indicators.
Serves as team lead for safety committee meetings, with a goal of implementing countermeasures and improving overall safety of the facility.
Assists with injury and incident investigation.
Documents, investigates, and reports any and all uncontrolled hazards, accidents/incidents, injuries, and near misses.
Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions.
Facilitates corrective actions pertaining to uncontrolled hazards, injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions and unsafe acts.
Assures that work practices and facility design are compliant with codes, standards and applicable regulations. Identifies and promotes best management practices.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in safety sciences including environmental science, safety, industrial hygiene or related scientific discipline or combination of education/training/certification and experience equivalent to a four-year degree.
Two or more years experience in a safety role and/or has served in the capacity of an occupational health nurse and/or therapist role. Some experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
Bilingual and fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
Strong background in forklift safety and mobile equipment training preferred.
First Aid/CPR Certified or the ability to receive within six months of hire.
Must have proficiency with all Microsoft applications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Must be willing to share knowledge by training others, as well as use passion to drive a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Adequate knowledge of local, state and federal health and safety regulations and their impact on operations.
Experience managing workers compensation claims, including reporting, claims management, and return-to-work processes.
Knowledge of the fundamentals of fire protection.
Knowledge of industrial hygiene.
Knowledge of machine and chemical process safety requirements
Knowledge of contractor, site expansion, and construction safety requirements.
Excellent presentation and training skills.
Excellent communication skillsboth technical writing and verbal.
Skilled in organization and planning with demonstrated follow through.
Ability to prioritize among multiple challenges.
Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision available.

General working conditions include an office environment, manufacturing, warehouse and laboratory, some of which are not climate controlled.
Will frequently travel to other company locations or business/conference centers for company-sponsored meetings/training/events.
Occasional: activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequent: activity exists 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
This position will provide support on an on-call basis and at times will be required to respond to major incidents requiring EHS support.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
